On-Air Staff

Jon Wood
Weekend Overnight Host

Birthday:
September 2

Hometown:
Asheville, NC

Family:
Right now it’s just me, but I’m hoping to be married to my beautiful fiancée Fatima soon!

Pet:
I have a Border Collie pooch named Cooter.

How and when did you accept Christ in your life:
I accepted Christ when I was seven years-old while watching a Billy Graham Crusade. Growing up in church I had always heard about the importance of Christ, but until that evening I did not realize how much I needed Christ in my life. It was a special night for my family as both my brother and I accepted Christ as our Lord. In middle school I became a member of First Baptist of Swannanoa, and it was here where I realized how much fun it is being a Christian!

Where else have you worked in radio or ministry:
University’s college radio station, 90.5 WASU FM, in 2006. In the summer of 2008, I interned for News Talk 570 WWNC of Clear Channel Asheville. Initially I became part of 106.9 The Light in April of 2009 as Host/Producer of Community Spotlight. I joined Curtis Media Group of Boone, NC as the Morning Drive Host of MIX 102.3 WECR in June of 2009. I served in this role until I joined the weekend on-air staff of The Light in March 2010.

College:
Appalachian State University in Boone, NC

Three people you admire:
Both of my parents have been superb models of faith and strength for our family. If I am blessed to have a family of my own one day, then I hope to be a parent of God like they were for me. The other person that I have to recognize is my fiancée Fatima. S

Favorite Food:
Ice cream. I’ll take it fixed any way, anytime, all the time, and everyday if I could! In my opinion, ice cream is the closest thing to manna we have today!!!

Christian Book (besides The Bible) that has influenced you:
"How to Share Your Faith" by Greg Laurie. This book has shown me the importance of reaching out to others in many different ways to be effective communicators of Christ’s love for the world.

Favorite Movie:
I am very much an action/adventure movie fan, but I have to say that I also enjoy a great musical. "Singing In The Rain" is by far my favorite!

Person who personally influenced your walk with Christ:
My parents have been great Christian influences, but I also have to recognize my high school Youth Director Karen Bonds. Karen was, and continues to be, a great mentor that emphasized the importance of developing a relationship with Christ on a very personal level.

Favorite Color:
Blue

What do you enjoy in your free time:
I don’t have a lot of free time, but when I do I love to: watch movies, learn, hike, camp, playing sports (except soccer, I was never very good at it), traveling to the beach, and spending time with family and friends.

Most boring job:
It would probably be the Houseman position that I served in at The Broyhill Inn and Conference Center in Boone, NC. We set-up each room for a variety of different meetings held for the different groups that visited the conference center.

Something about me you might not know:
I love to dance, especially with my fiancée. I have taken dance classes in Swing, Tango, and I have even picked up a little Merengue on the side.

Favorite Verse:
“The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him” Nahum 1:7
